Following the April 2009 DPRK missile/satellite launch I created a day long performance to highlight the events in North Korea further. I established a North Korean enclave within my family home for a day. Through the day my family and visitors were subjected to similar treatment to that of a DPRK citizen. These included being woken at 6.00 AM by state sanctioned marching music, rigorous customs and immigration checkpoints, censorship of media and cutting the power supply at 10 PM.

A book documenting the performance was created taking visual cues from official DPRK literature. The day aimed to cause the participants (wholly wiling or otherwise) to question the ‘situation’ in North Korea and educate them about the country’s regime. The day and its documentation was intended to have humorous elements, but also to have further reaching, and serious implications.
